Sony announces PlayStation Move bundles

Don’t own PlayStation Move yet, but have plans to pick one up? What better time to shop for one than this holiday season? At least that’s what Sony hopes that you’ll be thinking with the announcement of its brand new Move bundle. The company has just announced its latest Move bundle that gives PlayStation 3 owners the PlayStation Move motion controller, PlayStation Eye camera, and two Move-powered titles: Sports Champions and Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest . The bundle basically contains everything you need to start playing Move-powered games (minus the PlayStation 3 and TV of course), with an MSRP of $99.99. It will go on sale starting next week. However if you don’t have a PlayStation 3 to go along with the bundle, you can pick up the PlayStation 3 Everybody Dance bundle which has everything you need (except the TV) to get your Move on. You get a 320GB PlayStation 3, a PS Move controller, a PS Eye camera, a DualShock Wireless controller, and a copy of the Everybody Dance game. PlayStation Certification comes to Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Xperia Acro

Yes, we know that the day will come when phones will revert to just the “Sony” brand name after receiving word that Sony has purchased Ericsson’s share in their partnership. Well, in the meantime, you can still enjoy offerings from Sony Ericsson, and in order to further leverage Sony’s gaming pedigree, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Xperia Acro smartphones have just received the PlayStation Certification. This basically means Sony Ericsson fans in Japan will be able to allow users to gain access to hundreds of games which were available on the Sony Ericsson Play previously as part of an exclusive deal. The Xperia Arc will be the first model to receive this update, while the Xperia Acro will receive its update from November 15th onwards. I wonder whether the update for the Xperia Arc can be applied to the Xpera Arc S? Despite receiving the updates, the actual content in the PlayStation Store will only be available before December, so there is a wee bit of waiting time in between. This update will also throw in a bunch of other items such as PO Box4.3, news widgets, Facebook Inside Xperia 2.0, Native screenshot functionality, Xloud and Wireless tethering. Nerds and numerologists get ready: the last binary date of the 21st century is approaching. Friday is 11/11/11 — a highly significant date if you believe in the power of numbers. No doubt thousands of us will see the preponderance of ones as a good time to turn over a new leaf — start that new diet or exercise routine, perhaps. There is some logic to this: as a memorable date, it makes it easy to celebrate your profound change of direction in years to come. Friday is also Veteran’s Day, of course, and thus imbued with solemn significance. The First World War ground to a halt at 11 a.m. local time on the 11th of November 1918. This, then, will be the first time the world has ever gathered to remember the fallen at a time when every last number on the clock — including the two-digit year — is 11. But it’s also a date to celebrate, at least for programmers who think in binary code. One group of hackers has dubbed it “ Nerd New Year .” They’ll be lining the streets of Redwood City, in the heart of Silicon Valley, for an outdoor hackathon and party, including the countdown to Nerd New Year itself at 11:11 p.m. “It is ON,” organizer Adam Rifkin told Patch . (That’s a binary joke, by the way.) Meanwhile, the makers of ChannelCaster — a media-sharing app for Android — will be marking the occasion by launching a channel dedicated to the movie This Is Spinal Tap , and screening the film more than 11 times during the day. The startup got its name, OneLouder , from the movie’s classic scene where the fake rock band reveals its amps are able to “turn up to 11.” Android fans have another reason to celebrate: 11/11/11 marks the release of the highly-anticipated Droid RAZR. Verizon Wireless shops will open at 11:11 a.m. to start selling the device. If you feel like taking a stroll from the phone store to the multiplex, you may be able to catch a screening of Saw director Darren Lynn Bousman’s new horror flick: 11/11/11 . And if you’re more interested in contributing to a movie than passively watching one, you have a couple of options on 11/11/11. The One Day On Earth project is putting together its second visual record of the human experience. Meanwhile the 11/Eleven project is inviting digital submissions of every kind — audio, video, blog post, tweet — from the big day. The planned result: a two-hour documentary to be screened in September 2012. It isn’t just the tech and entertainment worlds taking note. Las Vegas has been swamped with nearly 4,000 wedding applications . South Korea has seen a similar rush — but in the delivery room, with expectant mothers demanding c-sections on the lucky date. If you miss the festivities, the next binary six-digit date will be here in slightly more than 88 years — on January 1, 2100. Verizon’s New LTE Promotion Meant To Benefit iPhone Users Too

Verizon’s new 4G data plan promotion sounds awfully generous, but CFO Fran Shammo said at an investors’ conference yesterday that it’s more than just a way to push 4G hardware during the holidays. The deal is also meant to reduce congestion on the company’s 3G EV-DO network, so iPhone users will be able to enjoy a more consistent network experience. “We want the iPhone user to experience what every other Verizon Wireless person experiences, which is the best, most reliable network in the United States,” Shammo said. “So, in order for them to keep that realization of that experience, we need to make sure that I don’t have to put in any more capacity to 3G.” Under the terms of the promotion, customers can pay the regular price for an LTE-friendly data plan and Verizon will give them double the data allotment at no extra charge. The standard smartphone data plan, for example, costs $30 and nets the user 2GB. For a limited time, that same user gets 4GB to use with their 4G device for the same price. The promotion is more-or-less brand new so there’s still no detail on how many customers have taken the bait, but Verizon is probably hoping for a mass exodus away from 3G. By providing an incentive for customers to ditch their old hardware, Verizon hopes to reduce the amount of money they need to spend in order to maintain their older, slower network. In fact, they’ve already begun to trim their 3G maintenance budget — the company reduced the amount of their wireless capital expenditures by $1 billion between Q2 and Q3 2011. Verizon has had their LTE network lit up for just under a year, but this upcoming holiday season signals a drastic shift in momentum for their 4G portfolio. Motorola , Samsung , and HTC have revealed a string of LTE-capable smartphones whose launches will coincide with the data promo period, and according to Frammo Verizon now has more 4G devices for sale than 3G devices.

For those of you who are thinking about picking up the upcoming ASUS Transformer Prime, quad-core Android tablet, you might not have to wait too long to pick it up. According to rumors online, the ASUS Transformer Prime is expected to be released just a few weeks after its launch on November 9 th . Apparently the company is trying to follow in Apple’s footsteps in terms of tactics, and they want to reduce the waiting time from product announcement to its arrival in retail outlets. With the tablet already appearing in benchmark tests , it doesn’t seem too hard to believe. The tablet is said to also be a US priority product, which means it will be released in the US before the rest of the world. No word on how true these rumors are, but if they turn out to be accurate, it’s going to be great for consumers (nobody loves waiting), though it makes you wonder why ASUS didn’t follow this philosophy with its previously announced devices like the Padfone that was introduced quite awhile ago. Regardless, the 9 th is only a couple of days away, so we won’t have to wait too long to find out more about the tablet and its eventual launch.
