BlackBerry London: First BBX device spotted in the wild?

Last week RIM mentioned that their upcoming BBX phones won’t look anything like the BlackBerry Bold, and judging by a photograph that recently found its way into the offices of The Verge, it looks like they weren’t joking around. The photograph shows a never seen before BlackBerry device, running a band new operating system that looks vaguely similar to QNX (PlayBook’s OS). The phone has been given the codename London and is supposed to be released in June 2012. The phone’s specs are: a 1.5GHz TI OMAP dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. It is supposedly thinner than the iPhone 4 and roughly the same size as a Galaxy S2. According to the tipster, the phone can also be stood straight up on one of its sides. While there’s no telling if it’s a cleverly faked photograph, but the folks over at BGR are corroborating with the report , so there should be some truth behind this phone. Regardless, we won’t be seeing it anytime soon so don’t hold your breath – at least not till next year. What do you think of the London? Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 receives botched Honeycomb update

It seems like an update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been pushed out prematurely. Quite a number of folks who received the update discovered some problems with the update: while the update brings the tablet to Android 3.2 Honeycomb, it breaks the tablet’s WiFi capability – which is a huge deal for a WiFi-only device. However, some folks have found a workaround to this problem by connecting via a static IP address. Other issues with the update include: problems connecting to Kies, “Firmware update failed. Please try installing using Kies (PC)…” message on boot, and auto-rotation not working anymore. Issuing a fix for the tablet is going to be a huge issue for Samsung, seeing how it can’t push it out through WiFi or Kies for the broken tablets. Hopefully a solution will come soon. In the meantime, for those of you who haven’t updated your tablet yet, it’d be a good idea to stay away from the update until it has been fixed. T-Mobile to headline Google Music event?

Last week Google sent out invites to a special event that is happening on the 16 th (this Wednesday), and while the invitation hinted at Google Music, it looks like we’ve got more clues to what’s going to happen. Another round of invites just went out, and this time it’s a joint invitation from T-Mobile and Google. While it isn’t clear what role T-Mobile is going to play in the event, the invitation mentions a whole lineup of artistes like Drake, Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes, Dirty South and R3hab; tying in even more to the theme of Google Music. Could T-Mobile be announcing new devices at the launch? Or will Google Music start off as a T-Mobile exclusive? (Let’s hope not.) World’s biggest QR code composed of footballs

Never mind the 300 million people who call it soccer, we go by majority here, where the “beautiful game” is football – and it has achieved yet another world record in the form of a QR code. Yes sir, Betfair recently filmed the world’s biggest QR code that is made up of nothing but footballs – although they had the help of 8 lovely assistants forming the code on the field, dressed in black and white. How do you scan a QR code that takes up most of the football field? Well, as part of the promotion of the Ireland versus Estonia match, a couple of skydivers were summoned, where they had to use their smartphones while free-falling to scan the codes at speeds of 130mph over the Aviva stadium – placing the world’s first mobile bet in the process with €500 ending up at some charity. More than 2,000 balls were used to compose the code, in addition to a helicopter and plenty of co-ordination. Check out the entire process in the video after the jump. iPhone 5 existed as a prototype?

When the iPhone 4S was launched a few months ago, a lot of people were disappointed when it was released with the same old design as the iPhone 4. Especially since there were countless leaks, reports, and even cases showing off the phone’s tapered edges and teardrop shape. People were wondering, what happened to that iPhone? According to the latest reports online , if they are to be believed; the redesigned iPhone 5 had existed as a prototype but it was cancelled a few months before the 4S was released. As to why the phone wasn’t released, there were rumors about Steve Jobs unhappy with the idea of the phone having a bigger screen which “fragmented” the iPhone. Well if that’s the case, does that mean Apple will never release an iPhone with a larger screen? Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait until next year to see what the fate of the iPhone 5 has become. Earlier this week, Adobe announced that it would be killing off Flash for mobile browsers , but it didn’t give a reason to why it was doing so. And for those of you who are curious, Mike Chambers, the Principal Product manager for the Flash Platform at Adobe has finally spoken up, confirming pretty much what we’ve suspected all along. The death of Flash Player for mobile browsers was mainly because of Apple’s refusal to adopt the player in iOS. Nokia has put all of their proverbial eggs into Microsoft’s basket with Windows Phone, and it looks like they’re going all out to not only make sure that their devices kick off, but to ensure that Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 platform takes out in the way that it should.
