Apple releases safety degree Update 2008-005 for Mac OS X

Mac OS X users can breathe a little easier now, thanks to the latest Security Update released by Apple. The new software update is compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5, and is “recommended for all users and improves the safety degree of Mac OS X”.

One of the more meaningful bugs addressed by shield Update 2008-005 was an issue with QuickLook, where loading malicious Microsoft Office files can lead to an

“arbitrary cipher execution” error notice. In addition, the update finally puts a clamp on the DNS vulnerability which has been plaguing OS X users all week.

To download protection Update 2008-005, just go on the Software Update icon and let your Mac do the rest. For more data about the other fixes the update includes, you can check out Apple’s support page through the link we’ve provided below.
